FROM STAFF REPORTS

sports@newnan.com

Kyle Kimsey hit a clutch 3-pointer after a huge lead went awry for The Heritage School's boys basketball team and Garrett Jones connected on consecutive free throws with nine seconds to play as the Hawks held off Flint River Academy for a 54-52 victory to close its Region 4-AA regular season schedule.

Heritage School jumped out to a 12-point lead at halftime, but it was cut in half with 2:30 left to play. The Hawks led 49-43 when Flint River connected on three consecutive 3-point shots to take go in front 52-49.

But with 26 seconds left, Kimsey capped off a 23-point night with the last of two 3-pointers to tie the game.

Reid Jackson, however, came up with a big rebound off a missed Flint River free throw to give Heritage School a final chance at a go-ahead basket and Jones, who finished with four points, hit the biggest pair in the game from the line after being fouled while going up for a shot.

Spencer Perry added 13 points in the win, while Kimsey also had a team-high eight rebounds.

The Hawks will play Harvester Christian on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m., to open the Region 4-AA tournament.

In the girls game, Flint River Academy made it a split on the evening with a 53-21 victory over Heritage School. Megan Gruber led the Lady Hawks with six points and Julie Thames added five in the loss.
