The Arnall Middle School girls basketball team made the most of Eboni Williams' game-high 14-point effort, as the Lady Knights held off Evans 28-24 in the first round of the Coweta County Middle School Athletic League tournament on Monday at East Coweta Middle.

Fourth-seeded Arnall advances to play top-ranked Lee tonight at 6:15 in the second half of a semifinal doubleheader. Lee finished the season atop the CCMSAL standings at 9-1, while Arnall improved its record to 5-6.

Frances Arnall scored eight points to lead Evans (2-8) in its season-ending loss.

In Monday's other first-round game, third-seeded Madras was too much for No. 6 East Coweta in a 33-8 victory. Kara Groover led the Lady Eagles with 17 points.

Madras (8-3) advances to play No. 2 seeded Smokey Road (8-2) at 5 p.m., in today's semifinals.

Alona Glenn led East Coweta with four points in the loss.

Tournament play continued Tuesday afternoon with boys first-round action at East Coweta Middle. Arnall's boys, seeded fourth following a 3-7 regular-season finish, played No. 5 Madras (2-8), while No. 3 Smokey Road (6-4) took on sixth-seed East Coweta (1-9).

Tuesday's boys winners face undefeated Lee and Evans, which finished 8-2 to earn the other first-round bye, in Thursday's semifinals.
