Chaycie Goggins scored 12 points Monday night to lead the Madras Lady Eagles to a 33-17 win over the Evans Lady Cougars in a first round matchup of the Coweta County Middle School Athletic League Girls Tournament played at Evans Middle School.

In the first period, Goggins provided most of the damage with nine points as Madras led 15-2 but Evans played scrappy defense forcing several turnovers in the second period and outscored the Lady Eagles 8-6 but still trailed 21-10 at intermission.

The third period was low scoring as the Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Cougars 4-3 and led 25-13 going into the fourth period in which they won 8-4.

Caroline Thompson followed Goggins in scoring for the Lady Eagles with nine points and Ebony Echols followed with seven points while Allie Crain led the Lady Cougars with seven points.

In the other first round game of the evening, Shemiah Sanchez and Lyric Underwood each scored nine points to lead the Arnall Lady Knights to a 37-13 win over the East Coweta Lady Indians.

The Lady Knights (7-4) will face the defending champion Lee Lady Timberwolves who is the second seed in the tournament on Wednesday at 5 p.m. also at Evans while the Lady Indians finish 0-11.

Pettaway would follow Underwood and Sanchez in scoring as she recorded eight points.

The Lady Knights began to pull away from a scrappy Lady Indians defense in the third period with an 11-5 session and held a 25-9 score going into a fourth period in which they outscored EC 12-4.

Kiandrea Hall led the Lady Indians in scoring with eight points, followed by Stephanie Breaux with four points.
