Lee, Madras girls stay unbeaten

Lee and Madras’ middle school girls soccer teams stayed unbeaten on Monday with shutout victories during the second week of play in the Coweta County Middle School Athletic League, setting up a showdown between the two teams on Friday.

Monday’s games had been rescheduled from Friday due to rain.

Lee received seven saves from Cheyenne Balliew and three more from Jordan Smith in a 2-0 victory over Arnall. Taylor Hendrix and Nikki Brandley scored for the Timberwolves, with Mackenzie Crenshaw and Sara Katherine Palmer picking up assists. Lee opened the season with a 7-1 win over Evans behind three goals from Serenity Waters and three assists and a goal and three assists from Brandley.

Madras got a goal from Rebecca Turner in a 1-0 shutout win over Smokey Road, which received 12 saves from goalie Emily Finger. Turner had three goals in the Eagles’ 5-0 win over East Coweta to open the season last Thursday.

Madras and Lee’s girls now meet on Friday at 4:30 p.m., at Madras. Evans travels to Arnall and Smokey Road will host East Coweta.

In Monday’s other girls game, Evans picked up its first win of the season with a 3-1 win at East Coweta. Ally Thomas scored three times and Maggie Darracott added two goals for the Cougars. Ally Crain also had a goal for Evans. East Coweta’s goal came from Camilla Crisp.

BOYS

Lee’s boys earned its second victory of the season with a 2-0 win over Arnall. Jairo Ruiz had a goal and an assist to lead the Timberwolves, who received 10 saves from John Spavelko. Boomer Hayes also scored for Lee.

Both East Coweta and Madras, who open the season with a scoreless tie, posted victories on Monday to improve to 1-0-1. East Coweta beat Evans 2-1 on goals by Cole Antley and Bryson Asher. Kyle Carter added an assist.

Madras shut out Smokey Road 4-0, getting goals from Jonathan Cortez, Joseu Araya, Quintavious Franklin and Alex Roemer. Zach Townsend, Kevin Cheng, Stephen Baxley and Ethan Bellora had assists.
