The Heritage School girls tennis team avenged its only region loss in its past seven seasons on Monday, defeating Christian Heritage in Dalton, 4-2 in a tight match throughout.
The Lady Hawks, who reached last year's GISA Class AA Semifinals as a team, continued to be led by 2010 individual semifinalist Isabel Dennis, who turned in Heritage School's only shutout at No. 1 singles. Dennis defeated Christian Heritage's Emma Regal 8-0, but the rest of the decisions all came within two games.
Heritage School doubles teams provided the difference, however, sweeping Christian Heritage teams in a pair of 8-6 decisions. At the No. 1 spot, Andrea Mayen and Abbie Farr defeated Lady Lions duo Katie Long and Ann Kathryn Anglea. Meanwhile, Kendall Roy and Lindsey Sherrod teamed to beat Christian Heritage duo Katie White and Catherine Launders.
The Lady Hawks split singles matches, with Ellie Crosby holding off Christian Heritage's Courtney Pirkle 8-6 at the No. 3 position. Both Amanda Frederking and Laura Perdomo fell in respective No. 2 and No. 4 matches, losing 8-6 and 9-8, the latter by way of a 7-5 tiebreaker.
LADY INDIANS CONTINUE TO SHINE
Only the rain can seem to put a damper on East Coweta's girls tennis team of late. The Lady Indians won their third straight match on Monday, holding off McIntosh 3-2 on the road in Peachtree City.
Tuesday's region match at Stephenson was canceled due to weather.
East Coweta, coming off last Thursday's 3-2 region win over Westlake, swept doubles matches on Monday against the Lady Chiefs, while also getting an 8-6 victory by Abigail Shell at No. 2 singles.
A team of Paige Deweese and Manuella Rincon held on for a 9-7 victory at one doubles spot, while Allie Shell and Taylor Heinz won 8-5.
East Coweta's boys were overcome by McIntosh's Class AAAA state runner-up boys program from last spring, falling 5-0. The Indians fell to 5-5 overall, but remain 2-1 in region play.
Both ECHS teams return to action today at home against Chapel Hill.
Other matches rained out on Tuesday included Heard County at Newnan and Upson-Lee at Northgate.
