Indians run out of steam at Lowndes

VALDOSTA -- The No. 3 state-ranked Lowndes Vikings broke open a close game by scoring 35 unanswered points Friday night to defeat the East Coweta Indians 52-14 in their first round matchup of the AAAAA state playoffs at A.B. Miller Stadium.
The Indians ended their season with a 7-4 record while the Vikings will make the trek next week to Kingsland for a matchup with defending state champion Camden County with a 10-1 record.
"We gave it everything we had in the first half but Lowndes made adjustments and they just overwhelmed us," said Indians head coach Clint Wade. "They seemed to regain some swagger and they were very hard to stop after awhile."
It took a late touchdown in the first half from the Vikings, however, to escape East Coweta at halftime with a 17-7 lead after the Indians came closed to within a field goal following an 11-yard touchdown run.
East Coweta kicker Mikey Ziedler clanged a field-goal attempt off the crossbar in the first half as the Indians couldn't seem to catch an early break.
"That touchdown seemed to give us some momentum," Wade said. "It was too bad we missed the field goal but we still felt pretty good."
The Vikings used a 32-yard Khary Franklin punt return in the closing seconds to set up a key score with 16 seconds left and leading just 10-7. A drive that began at the Indians 43 ended quarterback Cole Parker found Aaron Winston for a 22-yard touchdown pass that allowed Lowndes to go to halftime ahead 17-7.
It didn't take much longer, however, to put the game out of reach to begin the second half.
The Vikings scored 18 seconds into the third quarter when Franklin found a spot in the Indians defense on the first play from scrimmage and raced 80 yards for a touchdown.
After holding the Indians on a three-and-out, the Vikings took over at their own 40 with 9:32 remaining and behind runs from Franklin, Braswell and Robert Anderson were able to move the ball to the Indians 36 yard line and got a break when Franklin and a fellow receiver collided on a play that was ruled a catch at the East Coweta goal line.
Franklin was able to complete the drive as he went into he end zone untouched with 2:36 remaining and the lead was 38-7 going into the fourth quarter.
Playing mostly substitutes in the latter stages of the game, the Vikings didn't stop scoring as a 36-yard completion highlighted a five-play series that ended when backup running back Sam Duncan scored on a one-yard run as play began in the fourth quarter.
The Indians would get a touchdown with 5:50 remaining in the game when senior quarterback Austin Ingram threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to K.J. Hill.

The lack of recruiting really concern me the lasi two years. Athletes getting there highlights on VH S needs to be addressed.

We were pulling for you, but you had a tough break with having to play Lowndes on the first week of playoffs. Good luck next year except when you play us.

my prediction is that in the next 3-5 years Brooking will retire from Dallas and come back to be the Head Coach at EC. Anybody else agree?

wade is not the play caller...defensive cord. but doesnt call offense. QB was the starting strong safety all year...and his back-up probably should have played in those situations though hes not very polished, it would have helped. Scout all you want, but if you cant qualify for the NCAA's its going to be hard to go somewhere...EC has 1 very talented player and several middle of the pack raw players, thats why they over achieve.

Where's all this talent we've heard and read about all year and now the fans are calling the team over achievers ? I don't believe you can have your cake and eat it to. Just making it to the playoffs is never enough. Is anyone in this county ever going to win a football championship ? Luckie may be the 1st to go, but not the last if someone doesn't bring home a ring.

As bthrower states, don't start that crap here...go spew your venom elsewhere...let's say perhaps while you sit alone yelling at your TV when you obviously would have called the winning play for the game you are WATCHING. Buzz off & that's putting it nicely. Why don't you do something productive today, Mark....go rake some leaves or something but shut that hole in your face and don't start that crap here.

You do have to question Wade's judgement as in two games while having big leads(Morrow and Mundy's Mill)in the first half he had his starting qb playing defense. Being a head coach means you have to try develope depth on your team and silly moves like those can blow up in your face. Wade has a lot to learn. Bthrower ,you know football. Go back and watch the tapes and you'll see what I'm saying.

Mark keep your ignorant comments to yourself. The Indians have had two good seasons and have to play the number one team in the state. You are an idiot if you think Coach wade needs to be let go. You obviously know nothing about him. Join the coaching staff if you think you can do it better.

I wouldn't go as far are comparing him to Luckie, but he has some problems with play calling. Also, when you have a star player that is flying under the radar, call up some scouts to come and see him play.

This team overachieved, plain and simple and lost three regular season games where they all had leads. They led in every game this year except for Lowndes University and played them toe-to-toe for a full half... please. Enough is enough. Good kids, good coaching staff, a great, great running back made this another solid year. When we go 3-7 let me know... then I'll call for somebody's head.
