East Coweta's boys lacrosse team finished 3-0 last weekend while winning Woodward Academy's annual tournament.

FROM STAFF REPORTS sports@newnan.com East Coweta's boys lacrosse team shook off its first loss of the season on Thursday to go undefeated in last weekend's annual tournament at Woodward Academy. The Indians finished 3-0 in the event, including victories over county rivals Northgate and Newnan.
East Coweta opened the tournament with a convincing 17-2 win over the Vikings on Friday, before pulling out 13-9 and 10-8 decisions over host Woodward and Newnan, respectively. The win over the Cougars was the first for an East Coweta team in the four years since varsity lacrosse began in the county. The two teams meet again on Friday, April 13 in an Area 1-AAAAA contest at Newnan. Conner McMeen led the Indians (4-1) with nine goals over the three games, while Bronson Smith and Lee Steed finished with six apiece. Bryce Durden also had four goals in the tournament. The defensive effort was led by Kyle Durden, Dylan Byrum, Jakob Shiver and Jacob Weston. Midfielder Tyler Sandusky was the team's top faceoff specialist, with the Indians possessing 70-percent of draws in the tournament. Sophomore goalie Brian DeBole finished with 26 saves during the three games. Head coach Ryan Post felt his team made dramatic improvements coming off Thursday's 8-4 loss to North Gwinnett, but their work isn't over yet. "We face each of those teams later in the season and there's no doubt they'll be ready for us," Post said. "We aren't where we want to be and our coaches are focusing on making improvements in all facets of the game." Woodward finished second in the tournament with a 2-1 record. Newnan's boys went 1-2 in its first major action of the season while Northgate opened with three losses. The Vikings return to action today at home against Holy Innocents. The Cougars, who traveled to South Cobb on Monday, open their home schedule on Wednesday against Woodstock.
