High school wrestling: East Coweta headed to State Duals

FROM STAFF REPORTS sports@newnan.com The East Coweta Indians wresting team advanced to next week's Class AAAAAA state duals at the Macon Coliseum with a second-place finish. Phone messages left for East Coweta coach Josh Herring weren't returned by deadline on Saturday.
East Coweta started the day with victories over Westlake, Langston Hughes and Tri-Cities before facing rival Newnan for the right to advance to Macon in the Class AAAAAA State Duals. Just like when the two teams finished in a tie at the Coweta County Tri-meet, Friday's match at Douglas County was another nail-bitter with the Indians prevailing by one point 37-36. In the finals Douglas County took first place with a victory over East Coweta, The loss by Newnan spoils the Cougars hopes of advancing to the state duals for the first time in school history. 'We just didn't wrestle our best today,' said Newnan head coach Tom Everettt. 'You have to congratulate Douglas County and East Coweta, they did a great job, and deserve to be going to Macon.' Still, Everett came away with pleased with the way some of his wrestlers performed, including Andrew Sowerbrower, and Eric Shea. He also got some needed support from Tyler Vermilya. Northgate competed in the Region 4-AAAAA Duals at Forest Park. Results were unavailable at deadline.
