Heritage School swimmers saved their best for last at this year's GISA State Swim meet at Georgia Tech.
Out of 34 events, Heritage School athletes reached the podium 15 times among girls and boys divisions, led by Hawks swimmers sophomore Tanner Brandner and freshman Matthew Harmon.
The pair scored in all three individual events and were among a pair of fourth-place efforts on 200-yard medley and 200 freestyle relay teams.
Brandner set school records in all five of his swims in the state finals. The medley relay of Brandner, Harmon, Jesse Riggs and Donald Breyne finsihed in 2:0057, while the 200 freestyle finsih of 1:44.26 also set a new mark for the Heritage School program.
Individually, Brandner was fourth in the 50 freestyle (24.46) and fifth in both the 100 freestyle (53.54) and the 100 breaststroke (1:14.20), setting school records in each.
Harmon placed fourth in the 200 individual medley and sixth in the 500 freestyle. Ten minutes after the long-distance swim, he took eighth in the 100 backstroke with a school-record time of 1:08.69.
Also scoring points for the Hawks was junior Ben Dudley, who broke a school record in the 100 butterfly with his seventh-place finish.
Both sophomore William Newman (200 freestyle) and Riggs (200 IM) swam personal bests in their individual events, while Breyne -- a first-year swimmers -- added his best times of the year in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.
School records also fell among girls swimmers, led by senior captain Lauren Brandner. She joined senior Kaitlin Pepper, junior MacKenzie York and freshman Ruthie Powell for a record-setting effort of 2:19.83 in the 200 medley relay.
Brandner finished her career with individual records for Heritage School in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly.
Powell, a first-year swimmer and cross-county champion, established a new school mark in the 500 freestyle by finishing the year with a mark of 6:59.09.
