Newnan All-Star Fischer White lets go of the bat after connecting on a hit to right-center field during Saturday’s USSSA All-Star 6-under state tournament at the Temple Avenue Recreation Complex. The NYAA 6-under stars split their first two games and will play for a chance to reach the finals to open today’s action.

All-Star baseball lineups from the Newnan Youth Athletic Association were holding their own in USSSA state tournaments on Saturday, including a run to today’s finals from this year’s 8-under team.

The NYAA’s 8-under sub-state champs continued its perfect record by winning their first three games at this week’s state event at Tyrone’s Handley Park to reach today’s final against either the host Tyrone All-Stars or the Hopewell Dirt Dogs.

Improving to 8-0 this summer, Newnan defeated Tyrone 14-7 in Saturday’s semifinal game to stay unbeaten. The NYAA All-Stars opened the tournament with a 13-11 win over Boundary Waters and a 14-6 victory over the Pike County All-Stars.

Newnan’s 6-under All-Stars, also representing the NYAA, have a chance to reach today’s finals despite dropping its first loss of the summer. The team, which went undefeated in the substate tournament at the Temple Avenue Recreation Complex, returned to its home field Saturday for a 15-7 victory over North Macon to begin tournament play before falling 17-9 in the semifinals to Pike County.

sThe NYAA 6-under team looks to advance to the finals while needing a victory over the Locust Grove Mayhem this morning to earn a rematch against Pike in the 12:30 p.m. final. Newnan would need to win two straight wins over Pike to win the championship.
