Chalonda Goodman will compete in the 200 on Saturday at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Iowa.

Former Newnan High School standout Chalonda Goodman might have just completed her college career at the University of Texas, but the sprinter has may more races in front of her.

On Saturday, the recent college graduate, will compete in the 200-meter dash at the 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.

Goodman, who competed in last year’s Olympic Trials, begins her quest for the 200-meter dash title when she runs in the third of four heat races.

The top three in each heat and  the best four times move on to the semifinals, with the top four in each semifinal moving on to the finals on Sunday.

Preliminaries for Goodman’s event begin at 3:45 p.m., on Saturday.

The 200-meter semifinals take place on Sunday afternoon around 2:30 with the finals set for 4:20 p.m.

Because of her success in both the 200 and 100 meters, the Newnan graduate was a 12-time All-Big 12 First Team All-Conference with the Lady Longhorns, achieving  the accolade eight times during the outdoor season and four times in the indoor season.

The Lady Longhorn sprinter, who battled back from injuries during her junior season, capped off her college career this spring with a trip to the NCAA Championships in both the 100 and 200 meters, while also helping Texas’ women score in the 400 relay, placing eighth in the nation in 45.08.

“Coach [Rose] Brimmer and I have been working hard on my speed endurance and we’ve been really been focusing on my starts this season. I think we’ve really gotten it pretty much the way that we need to for nationals,” Goodman said prior to the NCAA’s.

She finished 13th in the 200 and 19th in the 100 meters.

Earlier in the spring, she turned in a first-place performance in the 100-meters during the Longhorn Invitational. A week earlier during competition at the Texas Invitational, Goodman placed second.

The spring season began following the departure of longtime coach Bev Kearney, who recruited Goodman out of Newnan High. Kearney resigned in January after admitting to having an intimate relationship with an athlete in 2002. In March, she filed an EEOC and Texas Workforce Commission discrimination charge against the university.

Goodman earned a spot at this year’s Outdoor NCAA Championships with fifth-place finishes at the Big 12 Championships in both the 200 and 100 meters.
