East Coweta senior Connor McMeen was recently selected to play in the Under Armour Underclass Lacrosse Tournament.

East Coweta senior Connor McMeen was recently selected to play in next month’s 2013 Under Armour Underclass Lacrosse Tournament, featuring boys and girls teams from 10 areas around the country.

McMeen was chosen to represent the South lineup for the tournament, while one of only four players from Georgia. The Indian, who played both attack and midfield this spring, earned his third consecutive Newnan Times-Herald All-County selection after posting 21 goals and 14 assists in just 11 games during the 2013 season.

The tournament will be held July 5-7 at Johnny Unitas Stadium at Towson University in Maryland. Teams representing Baltimore, the Midwest, New England, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Upstate New York, Long Island and Washington D.C., will compete in a 10-team pool play event.

The South lineup is made up of players from Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and Texas.

Joining McMeen among athletes from Georgia are Starr’s Mill senior Marco Amalfitano, Marist junior defenseman Kevin Coughlin and Lovett junior midfielder Will Russ.

McMeen is at least the second East Coweta lacrosse player to participate in a national tournament. In 2010, Jay DeBole played in the adidas National Lacrosse Classic. DeBole recently completed his sophomore season at Mercer while among three former prep standouts from Coweta County, joining juniors John Avent and Brett Eisenmann, both Newnan High alums.

DeBole finished with a goal and three assists in eight games this season.

Avent had three goals and four assists while playing in 11 games. Eisenmann added three assists in five games.

Former Northgate High standout Max Smerka was selected to this year’s Southern Athletic All-Conference Team following his sophomore year at Berry College. Smerka scored 31 goals and added eight assists this spring.
