3-AAAAAA tourney set for Monday

by Staff Reports

East Coweta and Newnan golf teams expect to be among the favorites at Monday’s Region 3-AAAAAA tournament to be hosted by SummerGrove Golf Club.

The two teams met on April 11 at Newnan Country Club in a nine-hole match led by Cougars Carson Vaughn and Max Matistic.

Lady Indians senior Ji Eun Baik is a heavy favorite to repeat as a region low medalist. Baik’s score in last year’s 2-AAAAA tournament topped all boys and girls competitors. The Mississippi State signee tied for fourth at last year’s Class AAAAA state meet in 2012.

Players tee off around 8 a.m. on Monday for the region tournament.

• TRINITY CHRISTIAN WINS TRI-MATCH

Trinity Christian defeated Holy Spirit and Dominion Christian in an 18-hole tri-match on Thursday at Canongate-on-White Oak.

The Lions finished eight strokes ahead of Holy Spirit. Dominion was 43 behind Trinity, which was led by Tyler Anderson’s score of 82 for low-medalist honors. Luke Hammock added a round of 83 in the victory.
