Newnan opens region softball schedule with win over Campbell

The Newnan Lady Cougars opened up the Region 3-AAAAA portion of their softball schedule Thursday on the road with a 9-2 win over Campbell.

The Lady Cougars exploded for seven runs in the top of the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie.

Tori Loveless struck out four batters, walked three, and gave up just two hits en route to the Lady Cougars’ win.

Hannah Scarbrough led the Newnan offense with a 2-for-3 performance. She was among three Lady Cougars to finish the game with a double. Arden Jobe and Lesley Davis also reached with doubles.

The Lady Cougars opened up the game in the seventh on the extra base hits from Jobe and Scarbrough, sending nine runners to the plate.

Five different batters had RBIs for the Lady Cougars with Ferguson, Loveless, Jobe, Shakerra Geter and Scarbrough each driving in RBIs.

The Cougars return home to play 3-AAAAAA foe Peb- blebrook this afternoon at 5:30.
