Turnovers factor into Lions’ 34-6 loss at Flint River

WOODBURY — Turnovers again were Trinity Christian’s worst enemy as Flint River’s running game and three interceptions by the Lions became a driving force in a 34-6 loss on the road Friday at The Den.

The loss dropped Trinity Christian to 0-2 heading into its home opener next Friday against defending GISA Class AAA state champion Westfield.

Flint River, coming off last week’s 13-12 victory over The Heritage School, jumped out for three early touchdowns and built a 26-0 lead at halftime behind the running of senior Nathan Strickland and sophomore James Murphy.

Grant Hurston added a late touchdown for Trinity’s lone score off a naked bootleg in the second half.

“I was proud of the guys for not giving up. They fought the whole game,” Trinity head coach Chris Hanson said. “We made mistakes on my and on their end. We’ve just got to go and correct them and get ready for next week.”
