Liebe RBI single lifts EC over Heard County

If East Coweta’s softball program hadn’t already been thrilled by the return of third-baseman Lauren Liebe to the lineup this week, the Lady Indians were certainly overjoyed on Thursday against Heard County.

Hampered by an injury during most of August, Liebe’s RBI single in the top of the ninth inning gave the Lady Indians a lead for good in the International Tiebreaker en route to a 5-4 victory over a strong Lady Braves program.

Liebe and Shemiah Sanchez each drove in runs in extra innings for East Coweta during two-hit outings while Morgan Goree held Heard in the bottom of the ninth to complete a 12-strikeout, complete-game effort.

The win pushed East Coweta’s record to 11-1 and completed a sweep of three strong non-region foes over the week following efforts over Woodstock and Northgate.

Both teams traded two runs in the second in a game before Heard took a 3-2 lead into the top of the seventh.

The Lady Indians tied it by manufacturing an unearned run before taking their own 1-run lead in the eighth on Sanchez’s RBI single. Heard then tied it, setting up Liebe’s clutch hit in the ninth to give ECHS the lead for good.
