Lutz boots game winner to lead Georgia State to win in opener
ATLANTA – Northgate graduate Wil Lutz kicked a 26-yard field goal with 4 seconds remaining to help Georgia State beat Abilene Christian 38-37 on Wednesday night in the Georgia Dome.
Playing the first FBS game of the year, the Panthers led 21-13 at halftime but struggled in the third quarter as ACU took charge and led 30-21 heading into the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Nick Arbuckle then led a charge as the Panthers roared back with 17 fourth-quarter points and won the game on Lutz's kick just before the end.
Arbuckle finished with 413 passing yards, one off the school record as he hit 31 of 47 passes with four touchdowns
Lynquez Blair had 118 yards receiving while Joel Ruiz added 111 and two touchdowns. Robert Davis had 90 yards receiving.
With the win, the Panthers improved to 1-0 with the first FBS win on the season and while ACU, which is moving to the FCS level from Division II, fell to 0-1.
The win snapped Georgia State’s losing streak at 16 straight games dating to the 2012 season, including an 0-12 mark last year.
Lutz is entering his junior season with the Panthers. Last season he booted a school record 53-yard field goal against top-ranked Alabama.
