Steele claims Summer Sizzler at Senoia Raceway

Franklin driver Chris Steele made his move near the halfway point of Saturday's Summer Sizzler special at Senoia Raceway, bypass Williamson's Houston Hatchett and holding on for a victory in last Saturday's Hobby Stock Summer Sizzler.

The special event paid a little more than the weekly givings offered by track promoter Tim Moses and that is what prompted Steele to run the 3/8ths mile track.

'He came into steal the money away,' said Moses. 'No pun intended. His car was working better than everybody else's last weekend. He earned the money.'

Steele was joined in victory lane by LaGrange's Dusty Jones who earned his third victory of the year in the Late Model division, taking the checkered flag over over defending champion and current point's leader Glenn Morris of Fayetteville. Locust Grove's Randy Brown was third.

Newnan driver Craig Scott returned to the winner's circle in the B Cadets, his first win since July 5 while moving to the Late Models the past month and adding a win there as well on Aug. 2. He out ran LaGrange's Buck Ussery using lapped cars and traffic to his advantage. Lake Spivey's Dow Kirkland, Newnan's Parrish Duncan and Richard Goode of Hampton completed the top five finishers.

The only other division that had enough cars to compete was the A1 Hydraulics Bomber and Alabama's Paul Walters bested the field of 10 cars for his second win of the season.

'The car count has not been very good the past few weeks,' Moses said. 'The fans are turning out and despite the lower (car) counts, the racing has been very good. We need more support from the racing community.'

The summer racing schedule continues this week with action slated for the Late Models, B Cadets, Hobby Stock, Bomber, Mini Stock and Legends classes.

The pit gates open at 5 p.m., this Saturday and grandstands at 6. Drivers will take the track for hot laps beginning at 7:30, with the first race set for 8.

Grandstand admission is $12 and children ages 12-andunder are free. Pit passes are $25 or $12 for children ages 3-12.

Trackside parking is available on first come, first serve basis and includes access to the pit area.
