Lady Lions dominate in opening weekend

Five matches into the season, Trinity Christian's volleyball team has not only stayed perfect, but has yet to give up a game while now getting a chance to rest up for the start of the GISA schedule.

The three-time defending GISA champions got a chance to test an equally deep and versatile lineup while going undefeated at the Capital City Christian Classic at Faulkner University.

'It was a real team effort. Everyone received significant playing time and made contributions,' Trinity head coach Joe Camp said. 'I was proud of the level of play we were able to display at this point in the season.'

Finishing 5-0, the Lady Lions also avenged a previous loss to Covenant Christian, winning 25-19, 25-15 on Friday. The team opened with a dominating effort over Success Unlimited of Montgomery 25-10, 25-3 and added victories over Central Christian, Ala. (25-15, 25-21), The Rock Kingdom, Ala. (25-16, 25-12) and EFCA (25-6, 25-12).

Opening the year in a 6-2 formation with two setters, Trinity executed at a high level against Covenant while finishing with a 2.32 passing average and a kill-percentage of .358.

The Lady Lions went back to its traditional 5-1 setup for the finale, dominating EFCA with a .488 kill-percentage.

Setter Regan Lohlein led the team with 59 assists and sophomore Cheyenne Hayes had a team-high 26 kills to pace the offense while also posting 10 aces.
