Northgate senior Kendall McLaren was named one of 16 All-State cheerleaders on Saturday during the Georgia Cheerleading Coaches' Association competition hosted by Columbus State University.

McLaren, who was nominated by Northgate coach Sarah Frazier, competed against 138 other seniors from programs around the state in a scholarship application before being narrowed down to 40 finalists that competed on Saturday.

Finalists were judged in an interview and then presented a two-minute routine.

The All-State squad will be honored at the conclusion of this year's GHSA State Championships in Columbus on Nov. 15, where the Georgia Cheerleader of the Year scholarship winner and the top scorer in the All-State competition will be announced.

The Georgia Cheerleaders Coaches' Association awards scholarships of $3,500 annual to its All-State squad.
