Lady Vikings place 5th in Class AAAAA

Northgate’s girls golf team placed fifth at Monday’s Class AAAAA state tournament. 


Ashton Thompson led Northgate’s girls golf team to a fifth-place finish on Monday at the GHSA Class AAAAA State Championships at Jones Creek Golf Course in Augusta.

The Lady Vikings posted a 276 to finish 10 strokes ahead of Pope among 16 teams in competition.

Cambridge dominated the state tournament with a 7-over 223 while finishing 25 strokes ahead of second-place Gainesville. Ware County was third and Creekview fourth.

Thompson’s 88 led Northgate. Montana Womack added a 92 that included a birdie on the par-4 16th hole.

Jessica Houk and Haley Grant finished with efforts of 96 and 99, with Houk netting a birdie on the par-3, 15th hole.

Northgate advanced to the state tournament by capturing this year’s Region 4-AAAAA title.

LEWIS TIES FOR 20TH AT CLASS AAAAAA EVENT: Competing individually among a field of 71 state qualifiers, Newnan’s Courtney Lewis fired an 84 to finish tied for 20th at the Class AAAAAA girls state championship at Gordon Lakes Golf Club in Fort Gordon.
