Lacrosse champs to be crowned today at ECHS

The Southside Middle School Tournament, put together by Copperhead Lacrosse locally, concludes today at East Coweta High School with area lineups taking on opponents from Fayette, Carroll, Cobb and Bibb counties today. 


The 2014 high school season may have ended earlier this week, lacrosse isn’t over yet in Coweta County.

The Southside Middle School Tournament, put together by Copperhead Lacrosse locally, concludes today at East Coweta High School with area lineups taking on opponents from Fayette, Carroll, Cobb and Bibb counties today.

Copperhead Lacrosse has been overseeing the growth of recreation and middle school lacrosse in Coweta County since it was brought to Coweta in 2000 and the league serves as a feeder program to Coweta’s three GHSA schools.

The 10-team tournament concludes starting this morning at 10 a.m with the Junior Indians-Purple and Junior Cougars, representing East Coweta and Newnan facing off in the ninth-place game.

East Coweta’s Junior Indians-Gold lineup faces Northgate’s Junior Vikings at 11:15 a.m. while among four teams still battling for fifth place. The other semifinal pits FPDS against McIntosh’s Junior Chiefs.

The four remaining teams in contention for the 2014 Southside Middle School title include two from Starr’s Mill — the Junior Panthers Blue and Junior Panthers White — one from Whitewater and another representing Whitefield Academy.

Whitewater’s Junior Wildcats enter today with a perfect 9-0 record.

The winner’s bracket finals begin at 12:30 p.m., with the SMLL Championship set for 3 p.m.

The Copperheads will also offer its boys high school Summer Scorcher League starting June 4 for current and new players. Game are played on Wednesdays at East Coweta High School with teams divided by its respective varsity rosters though both homeschool and private-school students are welcomed.
