Hawks, Lions compete at state

Fresh off top-two finishes at this year’s Region 1-AAA tournament at Canongate-on-White Oak, respective golf lineups from The Heritage School and Trinity Christian competed in Monday’s GISA State Championship Tournament at Southern Hills Plantation in Hawkinsville.

The Hawks — who fired a 324 at White Oak to win this year’s region title — fired a 338 at the GISA Class AAA tournament to place sixth among 13 teams. Trinity’s lineup was four shots behind Heritage with a 342.

Augusta Prep captured the state title in Class AAA with a team score of 301.

Standouts Ethan Mansour and Chad Bankston each earned All-Region honors for Heritage. Mansour finished as 1-AAA’s low medalist with a 1-over 73 while Bankston fired an 81 at the region tournament.

Dillon Connelly added an 83 and Philip Griffies completed the Hawks’ scoring at region with an 87. Sam Weaver also competed for Heritage.

Joining Mansour and Bankston among All-Region honors locally was Trinity Christian’s Hudson Huber.

Huber placed second at the region meet with a 2-over 74. The Lion standout also led Trinity’s state effort with an 80.

Luke Hammock, Adam Aycock and Daniel Jones also contributed to Trinity’s second-place region effort. Huber expects to join Aycock and Mark Grace — both eighth graders — as returners to next year’s team.
