Vikings host Indians tonight

This year’s Coweta Cup in high school lacrosse begins tonight following a weather-delayed opener.

East Coweta’s boys travel to Northgate in what should be an evenly matched game at Henry Seldon Field.

The opening faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Indians, who rallied to defeat St. Pius X 7-6 last Wednesday are coming off a 12-10 loss Monday at Starr’s Mill.

East Coweta’s boys enter with a 7-6 record heading into tonight’s game. Three of the team’s five losses have come by three or fewer goals.

The Vikings headed into this week on a four-game losing streak that dropped the team’s record to 5-8.

Cup play continues Friday with East Coweta traveling to Newnan. Newnan will host Northgate to close the regular season on April 29.

NEWNAN LINEUPS FALL ON MONDAY: Newnan lacrosse teams both fell in action Monday night with the boys losing 15-4 at home to Kennesaw Mountain and the girls dropping a 19-2 decision on the road at Starr’s Mill

In the boys game, Austin Ohlinger scored twice, both in the third quarter, and added assists on the other two goals for the Cougars.

Spencer Smith scored the first goal of the game for the Cougars in the first quarter, but Newnan fell behind 8-1 at halftime.

Both of Ohlinger’s scores came about two minutes apart in the third quarter. Bryce Buchanan added the final goal for the Cougars.

Goalkeeper Jordan Surrett finished with 16 saves and Junior Smith led with four ground balls.

In girls action, Newnan’s Savannah Ohlinger scored both times for the Lady Cougars.

Ohlinger also led the team with five ground balls.

Goalkeepers Hope Overton had three saves and Emma Dougherty finished with five.
