Elrod earns shutout in Trinity's first region victory

Trinity Christian's first region baseball victory in school history may also be one Cole Elrod remembers for a long time.

The Lions junior pitcher needed just 67 pitches to earn a completegame shutout in a 5-0 victory on Thursday at home over The Weber School.

'He was just dominating,' said Trinity head coach Brian Chmielewski, who heaped praise for Elrod's teammates as well. 'It was easily our best game of the season.'

The Lions played error-free behind their starting pitcher, who struck out six and allowed just two hits. Trinity's bats, meanwhile, jumped ahead for two runs in the first on an RBI hit by senior Daniel Shoates and padded the lead on Leighton Cannon's leadoff homer to start the bottom of the second.

Trinity added three runs in the third to give Elrod plenty of breathing room.

Shoates finished 2-for-3 in the victory which pushed the Lions record to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in Region 1-AAA.
