Newnan holds off Tigers in 10 innings

Newnan's baseball team had to work overtime Thursday on the road against Region 3-AAAAAA foe Douglas County, but came away with a 6-5 victory in 10 innings.

'This was really a big win for us,' said Newnan head coach Marc Gilmore. 'To win on the road is big. We didn't get a lot of hits, but we came through when we had to.'

The Cougars used 17 of their 21 players on the roster in the victory.

Newnan (5-9, 2-1) pushed the winning run across on an infield error i n the top of the 10th that allowed Chase Jones to score.

Jones started the 10th inning with a single, went to second a passed ball and moved to third on Drew Oldham's sacrifice before the error allowed in the eventual game-winning run. The Cougars then held off the Tigers in the bottom of the 10th to secure the region win.
