Heritage School teams blank opponents

The Heritage School boys soccer team geared up for a showdown at Trinity Christian between GISA Region 1-AAA rivals on Tuesday by shutting out Lafayette Christian 2-0 at home on Monday.

The Hawks take a 6-1 overall record into today’s trip to Sharpsburg against an undefeated Lions team.

David Martin set up both Heritage goals on assists to teammates Cole Bridges and Kyle Shuman against Lafayette. Sophomore Cole Jones finished with 10 saves in goal.

The Heritage School’s girls also prepared for a key region game Tuesday against Atlanta Girls to be held at Silverbacks Stadium by dominated a 6-0 victory over The Weber School.

The Lady Hawks built a 4-0 halftime lead while picking up goals from five players.

Calista Eckert scored twice and Kate Everett, Ansley Dieckmann, Sara Brillanti and Gina Brillanti also had goals.

Heritage’s girls are still in a three-way race for the No. 1 seed in 1-AAA while one loss behind both Atlanta Girls (5-2, 5-0) and Holy Spirit (5-1, 4-0).

The Lady Hawks have outscored their last two region opponents by combined score of 16-0 following a tough 3-2 loss by penalty kicks at Holy Spirit last Tuesday.

Heritage will host Holy Spirit on April 2.

“Even though we only scored twice in the second half we played much better and moved the ball extremely well,” said girls head coach Ron Rineer.

Calista Eckert, Jaina Eckert, Everett and Sullivan Wilkins each added assists in Monday’s win.
