Northgate extends winning streak in 16-4 rout
The Northgate Vikings won their fifth game in a row Friday night, beating visiting Mount Zion 16-4 in five innings.
After falling behind 3-2 through the first two innings, Northgate exploded for nine runs in the third and five in the second to 7-7 overall and 6-2 in Region 4-AAAAA play.
Northgate pounded out 10 hits and took advantage of eight Bulldog errors.
The Vikings had a chance to score even more, but left eight base runners on board.
Andrew Burden, Chase Allen and Buddy Green each had multiple RBI games for the Vikings Burden went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and scored three runs, Chase Allen also drove in three runs and scored twice. Green finished the game with two RBIs.
Connor Wilson, Green and Burden each had doubles in a nine-run third inning.
Three pitchers went to the mound for Northgate with Miles McDevitt getting credit for the victory after throwing three innings. McDevitt gave up just one hit.
Andrew Simpson started the game and struck out four. Jonathan Hamilton, who started as the catcher, went to the mound and threw the final innings.
Meanwhile, McIntosh tightened the Region 4-AAAAA standings further with a 6-4 win over Starr's Mill.
Whitewater is still unbeaten and in first place in region play, but the the final three playoff spots are up for grabs with Starr's Mill now 4-1. Northgate currently holds third place and McIntosh (3-2) in fourth.
The Vikings defeated McIntosh 3-2 earlier this week.
