Goad shines for GymCats with All-Around victory

Sydney Goad continued to shine for the Newnan High GymCats in its second home meet of the season against Northgate, Jefferson and Pike County.

The Newnan junior led the All-Around competition with a high score of 38 led by a 9.7 on vault and scores of 9.6 on both vault and beam during Friday’s competition at Newnan School of Gymnastics.

Pike County was the only lineup to post a team score.

Sophomore Hailey Norton joined Goad among Gymcats competing on Friday. The team, which returns home on April 4, was without junior Elizabeth Hovey.

Lauren Smith of Pike County was a distant second in the All-Around behind Goad with a combined score of 30.1 followed by teammate Miranda Rawlins’ third-place total of 29.5.

Northgate’s Maggie Shiffert placed second behind Goad’s impressive effort on vault with an 8.3. Both Lindsey Sunnycalb of Jefferson and Smith tied for third with efforts of 7.8.

Goad also took first on uneven bar with a 9.1, which was followed by Jefferson’s Elizabeth McMullan (8.6) and Pike County’s Holly Turner (7.3).

McMullan also placed second behind Goad on beam and floor with scores of 9.1 and 9.4, respectively.
