Lady Hawks finish undefeated in region

The Heritage Lady Hawks go into next week’s GISA Region 1-AAA Tournament as the No. 1 seed thanks to a 42-33 victory over Holy Spirit Friday night.

With the victory, the Lady Hawks (21-3, 11-0) close out the regular season with an undefeated region record.

Heritage led 15-6 at the end of the first quarter and extended the lead to 26-16 at the break.

The Lady Hawks held Holy Spirit to just six points in the third quarter to grab a 38-22 lead heading into the final quarter.

Lilly Smith lead the way for the Lady Hawks, knocking down five 3-pointers and finishing with 15 points en route to the win.

Kara Groover added 8 points for the Lady Hawks. Karlee Groover added three points and led the team with 9 rebounds.

The Lady Hawks defense came up with 9 steals en route to the win.

Holy Spirit finished the regular season with just two region losses and goes into the start of Monday’s Region 1-AAA Tournament with a 9-2 record.

HERITAGE 73, HOLY SPIRIT: 32: The Heritage Hawks closed out their 2013 regular season Friday night with a impressive display of offense.

The Hawks jumped out to a 25-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and were in control the rest of the way, including leading 40-19 at the end of the first half.

Thirteen different players scored for the Hawks en route to the win. Cole Jones just missed a double-double, leading the way with 16 points and 9 rebounds.

Rich Yancey shot 50 percent from the field, hitting 4 of 8 shots and finishing with 8 points.

The Hawks ended the game with 51 rebounds and also had 8 steals.

Heritage closed out its regular season with a 14-7 overall record and a 73 mark in Region 1-AAA action. Holy Spirit ends the regular season with a 4-13 overall record and a 1-8 record.
