Smokey Road boys stay perfect

Smokey Road's boys basketball team remained unbeaten in the Coweta County Middle School Athletic League with a 42-39 victory over Evans on Friday.

Jarrell Rosser led the Wildcats (5-0) with 19 points including 11 from the free-throw line as host Smokey Road held on in a backand- forth contest that included nine lead changes.

Ros s e r added seven rebounds while teammate T.J. Robinson had seven points, including a 3-point shot as the Wildcats took leads of 23-19 at halftime and 31-26 after three quarters.

Cedric Hall led Evans (2-3) with 10 points.

Due to school closing, Tuesday's games have been rescheduled to Friday. Play will resume on Thursday with regularly scheduled games.

Recapping last Friday's other scores: GIRLS ARNALL 31, MADRAS 29: The Lady Knights, led by Jeffraniqua Parson's nine points, quickly rebounded from their only loss of the season by holding off the Lady Eagles and improving to 4-1 overall.

Madras (2-3) was led by Leia Robinson's game high 13 points.

SMOKEY ROAD 28,

EVANS 20: The Lady Wildcats used a 7-2 run in the second quarter to pull away from Evans after both teams ended the opening period tied 4-4.

Maxy Gates led Smokey Road (3-2) with 13 points while teammate Miranda Hill had 14 rebounds to go with her five points. Janaya Strickland (4), Sha Mia Dorsey (4) and Erin Ladd (2) also contributed to the scoring.

Evans (3-2) was led by Janyah Stargell's 13 points. Jakeria Strickland added four for the Lady Cougars while Tymya Watson had three in the loss.

EAST COWETA 30, LEE 20: The Lady Indians picked up their first victory of the season while improving to 1-4. Lee, which was led by Morgan Charbaneau's six points, fell to 2-3 overall.

BOYS MADRAS 48, ARNALL 38: Eagles teammates Devontae Johnson, Robert Givens and Levi Robinson combined for 35 of their team's 48 points as Madras (1-4) picked up its first victory of the season over the Knights (0-5).

Lee 39, East Coweta 25: Chris Reid led the Wolves (4-1) with 16 points as Lee's boys remained one game behind unbeaten Smokey Road in the standings.
