Smokey Road girls stay unbeaten

Smokey Road’s girls basketball team remained undefeated this season in the Coweta County Middle School Athletic League Wednesday with a 44-18 victory over Arnall. The Lady Wildcats (5-0) built a 19-7 lead at halftime, after leading by five at the end of the first quarter against the Lady Knights (2-2).

Three players finished in double figures for Smokey Road including Maxy Gates, who led the way with 13 points. Tatiana Parks and Erin Ladd added 11 and 10, respectively in the win.

The Lady Wildcats put its unbeaten record on the line tonight against Evans (3-1) at home. Evans defeated Lee’s girls 24-19.

Girls

EVANS 24, LEE 19: The Lady Cougars needed a fast start to hold off the Lady Timberwolves, as Evans (3-1) raced out to a 12-0 lead after one quarter behind Jekeria Strickland’s team-high eight points. Janya Stargell and Tymya Watson each had six in the victory.

Led by Aja Sparks’ seven points, Lee closed the game by outscoring Evans 19-14 over the final three periods. Morgan Charboneau added four points in the loss. Lee travels to East Coweta tonight.

MADRAS 23, EAST COWETA 18: The Lady Eagles received eight points apiece from Charla Echols and Leia Robinson in the victory. Madras hosts Arnall tonight.
