Heritage School second at Gatewood Invitational

Sophomore Gage Warren, freshman Harper Minor and eighth grader Allie Browning each won events for respective Heritage School swim teams and Hawks senior Tanner Brandner set a new school record in the 200-yard individual medley with a second-place finish of his own during an impressive outing at Friday’s Gatewood Invitational swim meet.

The Heritage School placed second overall as four varsity swimmers led the way.

Minor and Browning each had three finishes among the top-four in individual events for the Lady Hawks.

Minor earned a victory in the 200 IM in 2:26, placed third in the 100 freestyle (1:01.67) and fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.84).

Browning won the 500 freestyle (6:14.70) and also took second in the 100 butterfly (1:14.90) while finishing fourth while competing with her Lady Hawks teammate in the 200 IM.

Heritage’s varsity boys swimmers were equally strong led by Warren’s victory in the 500 freestyle (6:02.43). He also placed sixth in the 50 freestyle (26.25) and eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:19).

Brandner, meanwhile, set a new school record of 2:18.94 in the 200 IM while finishing second. He was also fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:07.24) and sixth in the 100 freestyle (56.76).

Hawks junior Matthew Harmon added three top-five efforts including a personal best of 55.66 in the 100 freestyle, where he placed fifth. His top swim came in the 200 freestyle, placing second in the 200 freestyle (2:03.72), while also finishing third in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.71).

Varsity lineups now head into their final meet of the regular season on Saturday at Darton College in Albany, before heading on to the GISA State meet on Feb. 1.

The Heritage School’s junior varsity teams placed seventh overall on Friday, with several swimmers qualifying for the GISA state meet.

They included eighth graders Isabelle Harris, Ella Lawrence and Olivia Gentry. Harris posted a top time in the 50 backstroke (40.1) to add to a previous state qualifier in the 100 IM.

Lawrence qualified for state in the 50 breast- stroke in 44.10 and added another personal best in the 50 backstroke (41.03). Gentry qualified in the 50 butterfly in 44.87 for her top time of the season.

Eighth grader Mili Patel also had personal bests for the Lady Hawks in both the 50 free- style and 50 backstroke.

Heritage’s junior varsity boys were led by a state-qualifier from sixth-grader Daniel Wel- lons in the 100 IM, where he placed fifth in 1:28.34 while dropping 12 seconds off his previous best time.

He also finished fifth in the 50 backstroke (40.83) and bested his top time in the 50 breaststroke (49.43).

Seventh grader Charlie Minor also had a pair of top-six efforts, taking fifth in the 50 butterfly (42.49) and sixth in the 50 backstroke (42.61).

Others Hawks swimmers to post personal bests included seventh grader Jack Stanley in the 50 breastroke (1:09) and sixth grader Andrew Vo in the 50 freestyle (35.98).
