Cronic earns division coach of year honors
Year one as a head college football coach for Danny Cronic and the Reinhardt Eagles could have easily been deemed a success.
The longtime high school coach in Coweta County was named the Ron Finley Mid- South Conference West Division Coach of the Year on Thursday after guiding the first-year college program in Waleska to a 6-4 record as well as t he West Division title.
Seven of Cronic's players were also named to all-conference teams as the MSC announced its football honors. Reinhardt spent much of the season ranked in NAIA Top 25 polls.
Cronic compiled a record of 148-52 during an 18-year career at East Coweta High and also coached The Heritage School's program to a 4-6 record during the 2010 season locally.
The Eagles, whose staff also included offensive coordinator Drew Cronic, who played quarterback under his father at East Coweta and went on to play in Georgia's program prior to a coaching career that included several years at Furman, capped off the season with a 66-48 win at Campbellsville University on Saturday to cap off the Mid- South Conference schedule at 4-1.
All four of Reinhardt's losses came by 12 or fewer points. The program rebounded from an 0-2 start following 40-37 and 50-45 losses to Mercer and Lindsey Wilson College with a fivegame win streak.
WEST GEORGIA TO NAME WILL HALL AS NEW HEAD COACH TODAY: University of West Alabama head football coach Will Hall has accepted the same position at UWG, according to a source close to the program.
Hall, a former standout quarterback in the Gulf South Conference with North Alabama during his playing career, expects to be introduced Friday during a 3 p.m. press conference at The Coliseum in Carrollton.
At North Alabama, Hall won the Harlon Hill Trophy as the Division II Player of the Year in 2003 after leading the Lions to a 13-1 record and a trip to the NCAA quarterfinals.
