Heritage JV competes at state meet

Despite missing a large group of its eighth-grader runners to the school's interim fall break, The Heritage School JV cross-country program held its own at this year's Class AAA championship meet held last week at Stratford Academy.

The Lady Hawks, who were without No. 1 runner Catherine Hallman, received a tremendous second-place effort from sixth-grader Sovi Wellons with a time of 10:15 on the 1.6 mile course to lead Heritage's girls to a sixthplace finish in team scores.

Host Stratford won the girls meet led by individual winner Emory Sutherland in 9:58.

Other girls finishers for Heritage included Francis Powell (15th), Alice Naughton (43), Jordan Rineer (44), Ivie C. Dean(57), Kendall Stevens(60), and Grace Lyle(103).

While unable to compete as a team, three Hawks runners placed individually led by Eric Brandner's 41st-place effort. Tripp Markel (56th) and Gray Burkhart (86th) also represented Heritage, which was missing eighth-grade runners.

Stratford won the team title while Deerfield-Windsor runner Ethan Merrit captured the individual championship in 9:19.
