Northgate shuts out McIntosh to stay unbeaten in region

Northgate’s softball team took another big step in its pursuit of a region softball crown on Thursday, shutting out McIntosh 5-0 to stay undefeated in 4-AAAAA play while avenging one of only two losses this season.

Northgate scored one run in the second, one in the fifth, two in sixth and one in the seventh to push its overall record to 11-2 and its region record to 6-0. The Lady Vikings dropped a 4-1 decision to McIntosh in the Georgia Dugout Club tournament on Aug. 16, but haven’t lost since while on a nine-game winning streak.

Northgate’s McKenzie Peace went the distance from the pitching circle against the Lady Chiefs and struck out seven, while giving up just six hits.

Emily Heath helped pace the offense with a two-run homer that put the game out of reach in the top of the sixth during a two-hit performance.

Jenna Pealor also drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Northgate also scored two unearned runs against the Lady Chiefs.

Peace was able to pitch out of trouble along the way, especially at the the top of the Lady Chiefs lineup where leadoff hitter Megan Eberle and Hannah Newton each had two hits for McIntosh.

NEWNAN 15, TRI-CITIES 0: The Newnan Lady Cougars unleashed a ton of offense Thursday night in their Region 3-AAAAA contest against Tri-Cities, rolling to a 15-0 victory in a game called after five innings.

The Lady Cougars outhit the Lady Bulldogs 17-1, breaking the game open with a eight-run explosion in the fifth.

Mary Beth Arnall led the hit parade with three RBIs and home run.

Shania Colton and Lindsey Stewart had two doubles each and Leslie Davis and Francis Arnall also doubled.

Chaycie Goggins added a triple.

Colton joined Arnall with three RBIs. Stewart also drove in a pair of runs .

Allison Cobb picked up the win on the mound, allowing just the one hit and striking out four in five innings of work.
