Lady Indians move to 3-1

East Coweta’s softball team moved its record to 3-1 on Tuesday with a 12-6 victory at Northside-Columbus, the Lady Indians’ second win in as many days.

Kaylin Wall was the winning pitcher, allowing a run off four hits and finishing with a strikeout and two walks.

Wall got plenty of support among at least four Lady Indians that had multi-hit performances. Both Katey Lynch and Shemiah Sanchez went 3-for-5 with Sanchez adding an RBI.

Kia Smith and Lauren Liebe each went 2-for-5 with Liebe driving in a run. Haley Baswell poked a double and also drove in a run en route to the win.

On Tuesday, East Coweta knocked off Whitewater 8-6.

Although the game was originally scheduled to be play on Saturday as part of the Georgia Dugout Club Tournament, rained postponed it until Tuesday.

The delay didn’t seem to bother the Lady Indians.

East Coweta broke the game open with three runs in the top of the first and then held off a couple of Whitewa- ter rally attempts.

Pitcher Morgan Goree went the dis- tance for the Lady Indians, picking up four strikeouts and pitching around seven hits, including a home run and four walks.

Reba Jones had a hot bat, finishing with a hit and two RBIs.

East Coweta travels to Pike County on Monday for a non-region game.

Lady Vikings face defending state champions tonight

The Northgate softball team isn’t wasting any time getting into the chal- lenging part of its Region 4-AAAAA schedule.

Tonight, at home in a 7 p.m, first-pitch start, the Lady Vikings take on defending Class AAAAA champion Union Grove a early region clash.

It’s a rematch of last year’s two meetings. Northgate won the first battle 5-3 in a game settled by the international tie- breaker, but lost in the Region 4-AAAA title game 3-2.

One thing Northgate won’t have to worry about this year is facing pitcher Megan Betsa. Betsa won two state titles during her impressive high school career, one as a freshman at Eagle’s Landing Christian, and then one last season for the Lady Wolverines to close out her high school career. Betsa transferred to Union Grove as a sophomore and led the team to the Elite 8 each season.

Northgate enters the contest on a two-game winning streak and has built a 4-2 record.

Union Grove has played just one game this season beating Mary Pearson’s 6-4. Northgate has picked up two straight victories this season against Carrollton and Newnan in its last two outings. The Lady Vikings enter today’s game against the visiting Lady Vikings getting solid pitching and hitting from McKenzie Peace.

In the victory against Newnan, Peace drove in two RBIs with a double. She also gave up just four hits and had a strikeout in the win.
