Lady Vikings fall to Union Grove on road
The Northgate softball team dropped its second straight game on Tuesday, falling 3-2 to Union Grove on the road in Region 4-AAAAA action.
The Lady Vikings came into the contest after falling to Carrollton in the final game of the Georgia Dugout Classic on Saturday.
Both teams pounded out five hits, but t he Lady Wolverines took the lead in the bottom of the fifth, breaking a 2-all tie when Haley Vernon drove in Lindsey Gilliam for the winning run.
The loss dropped the Lady Vikings to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in Region 4-AAAAA.
Despite the loss, Northgate pitcher Kaitlin Bailey turned in a solid three-strikeout performance without yielding a walk.
Northgate took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Union Grove scored twice in the bottom of the second to go ahead.
Britani Crawford's solo homer tied the game at 1-1, before going ahead on an RBI double by Jordan Barnett.
The Lady Vikings scored their last run of the game in the top of the fourth when Lauren DeLoach drove in Jessica Houk.
Northgate picked up help from the middle of the order with Jordan Hamilton, Lauren DeLoach and Alyssa Allen each getting hits. Houlk and Alderman also reached with singles from the top of the order.
Gilliam had two hits en route Union Grove's win.
Pitcher Mikayla Lane picked up the win, finishing with two strikeouts in three innings of relief.
EAST COWETA KNOCKS OF DEFENDING CLASS AAAAA CHAMPS OLA: The Lady Indians improved their record to 5-1 overall with a 14-5 victory over defending Class AAAAA champion Ola Saturday morning in a game called after five innings.
East Coweta scored three runs in the first, four in the second and then broke the game open with six runs in the fourth.
Madison Carter Hailey Baswell, and Qortini Ware each had three RBIs en route to the win.
Six Lady Indians contributed to an 11-hit performanc including doubles by Baswell and Shemiah Sanchez each had a double en route to the win.
Morgan Goree picked up the win, pitching four innings, and striking out four and walking three.
Rachel Vaughn pitched an inning in relief and added a strikeout.
