East Coweta, Newnan lineups win area games

East Coweta and Newnan boys lacrosse teams earned Area 1-AAAAAA victories at home on Friday.
The Indians picked up four goals from both Conner McMeen and Carter Byrum in a 15-6 win over McEachern at Garland Shoemake Stadium.
Newnan, meanwhile, closed a 10-5 victory over Campbell at Drake Stadium with five unanswered goals, two from George Coria, during a doubleheader sweep on Senior Night
With the wins, East Coweta improved its records to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in 1-AAAAAA while wrapping up a state playoff berth.
The Cougars improved to 4-10 overall and 2-4 in the region.
Against McEachern, McMeen led the Indians with six points while adding two assists to go with his four goals. Byrum also had an assist to finish with a five-point effort.
Bryce Durden added three goals and an assist for East Coweta. Brian DeBole made 15 saves in goal for the Indians.
Caleb Dailey and Sterling Tyson also had goals for East Coweta.
Newnan, which never trailed, was finally able to pull away from Campbell after watching the Spartans rally back from a pair of two-goal deficits after halftime.
Senior Davis Ozier’s third goal of the game pushed the Cougars ahead 5-3 only to see Campbell tie it on back-to-back tallies of its own.
Drew Winslett, coming back from an injury, put Newnan ahead to stay by finishing off a hat-trick. Teammate J.T. Leake then added a goal to push the lead to 7-5 before Coria tallied a pair of his own to close the scoring.
LADY COUGARS ROUT CAMPBELL: Senior Sydney Garmany scored seven goals and added an assist to lead Newnan’s girls to a 16-2 rout over Campbell on Friday.
Garmany had four of the Lady Cougars’ first five tallies of the game to eventually take a 6-1 lead with 9:30 left in the first half. An unassisted goal broke a 1-1 tie before Newnan reeled off eight straight into halftime.
Savannah Ohliger, Megan Diebboll and Hunter Harrison each had two goals in the win. Diebboll led the defensive effort with five ground balls.
Newnan also received goals from Anne Jarrett, Kristal Boyd and Sydney Overton.
Ohliger added two assists while Hannah Reid, Boyd, Harrison and Overton each had one.
