Heritage School sees region standings tighten

by Staff Reports

MARIETTA — The GISA’s Region 1-AAA baseball standings got a whole lot tighter this week. Unfortunately for The Heritage School, that was bad news.

The Hawks couldn’t finish off a comeback effort on Tuesday at Dominion Christian, falling 4-3 on a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 10th inning while suffering only their second loss of the season.

Both have come to 1-AAA teams by one run on the road. Heritage School's only other region loss came in a 5-4 defeat on March 19 at the hands of Loganville Christian, which scored four times in the bottom of the sixth to rally past the Hawks.

On Tuesday, Heritage School stormed back from a 3-0 deficit to send the game to extra innings while scoring twice in the third and a game-tying run in the top of the fifth to force extra innings.

Senior Tyler Nix went 3-for-4 with singles in each of the Hawks’ rallies including driving in the tying run in the fifth. In both innings, Candler Rich stole second and eventually scored while going 2-for-5 in the loss. Brad Macke and Luke Crook also had RBI singles in the loss.

It further tightened the 1-AAA standings with Loganville (2-1), Weber (2-1), Heritage School (3-2) and Dominion (2-2) all separated by a game.

The Hawks were coming off Friday’s 11-0 win at Trinity Christian and won’t return to region play until next Thursday at home against Weber.

Heritage School's next game is Monday at Flint River.
