Prep Lacrosse: McMeen helps East Coweta storm past Woodward Academy

East Coweta’s boys stormed out to a seven-goal lead at halftime and never looked back in a 17-6 victory over Woodward Academy in non-region lacrosse action on Tuesday at Garland Shoemake Stadium.
Conner McMeen had four goals and four assists and Bryce Durden scored at least three to with an assist for the Indians, who will be off until next Wednesday’s Area 1-AAAAAA game at Campbell.
Lee Steed finished with two goals and an assist for the Indians and Carter Byrum and Jemarcus Godfrey were also among East Coweta’s goal scorers.
In other boys lacrosse action:
Kennesaw Mountain 10, Newnan 4: A young Cougar lineup that’s been hit hard by injuries this spring held defensively but couldn’t put the ball in the net through two-and-a-half periods before Drew Winslett finally got Newnan (1-5, 1-2) on the scoreboard with 8:56 left in the third quarter.
The Mustang scored five unanswered goals to open the game while improving to 4-3 and 2-1 in Area 1-AAAAAA.
Winslett added assists on goals by teammates Davis Ozier and Jackson Overton in the loss.
Woodward Academy JV 6, East Coweta 1: Mark St. Germain kept the Indians in the game at halftime, down 2-0, while making 16 saves over three quarters of play.
Cole Watson scored for East Coweta and August Exnes added a pair of saves while playing the final period.
