East Coweta’s girls lacrosse team got a long-awaited dose of revenge on Thursday.
After a senior-laden McEachern lineup had its way in 2012 with another set of Lady Indians to close last year with an 11-5 loss, East Coweta returned the favor on Thursday with a convincing 16-7 victory at Garland Shoemake Stadium that saw the home team dominate the final 25 minutes of play in its Area 1-AAAAAA opener.
The win was also the girls’ first of the season after an 0-3 start.
A scheduled boys game was postponed until April 26 due to a conflict for McEachern, who had already played its maximum games allowed for the week under GHSA bylaws.
East Coweta’s girls outscored McEachern 8-2 in the second half while led by four of senior Ciara Centenera’s game-high seven goals.
Despite leading by three at halftime, head coach Todd Crafton told his Lady Indians team — which includes nine seniors and six juniors this year — to treat the game as scoreless heading into the final period.
East Coweta (1-3, 1-0) responded by scoring five unanswered goals, three of which came on free position plays as McEachern’s defense struggled to defend oncoming rushes.

Autumn Wilson added a goal off a pass to push an 11-5 lead with 20:57 remaining before Centenera and Sarah Reeves scored on free positions.

Reeves added three goals in the win and Wilson had two. Both are sophomores.

Also scoring twice for East Coweta was senior Cheyenne St. Germaine while Kyra Odum had the other.

Senior goalie Kallie Brook made six saves including a pair of point-blank stops off free position shots in the final 12 minutes of play.

McEachern (0-2, 0-2) was coming off Tuesday’s 15-4 loss at home to Newnan’s girls.

The Lady Cougars received four goals from Savannah Ohliger and three goals and an assist from fellow junior Sable Hawkins in the rout. Sydney Garmany added two goals and an assist while Anne Jarrett (2 goals) and Gaby Busby (1 goal, 1 assist) each had two points.

Newnan lineups resumed Area 1-AAAAAA play on Thursday at Hillgrove. The Cougars lost 13-1.
