Prep Tennis: Northgate teams sweep Chapel Hill

The Northgate tennis teams swept Chapel Hill Monday afternoon with the boys winning 5-0 and the girls taking a 4-1 decision.
The Northgate boys rolled through their five matches without dropping a set
Hayden Victer (6-2, 6-0) won in No. 1 singles, Larry Sloan (6-1, 6-2) in No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-2) and C.J. Evans (6-0, 6-0) in No. 3 singles.
The Vikings finished off Chapel Hill with wins in two doubles matches. Cole Chenowith and Derek Kinsch (6-1, 6-1) dropped just two games en route to their win.
Austin Horvat and partner Bharath Shankar (6-1, 6-0) also had an easy time with their opponents.
The girls took control of their matches with wins in all three singles matches.
Danielle Rankin (6-2, 6-1) won in No. 1 singles, Lauren Handley (6-1, 6-2) in No. 2 singles, and Hayley Hasberger Austin (6-1. 6-0) in No. 3 singles.
Northgate’s No. 2 doubles team of Laura Bowen and Mary Salyards (6-1, 6-1) capped the winning day for the Vikings.

The Lady Vikings lost their only match of the day when the No. 1 doubles team of Amy Salyards and Avery Weatherford dropped a close 6-7 (2-7), 4-6 decision.

In two exhibition girls matches, the doubles team of Lauren Schexnayder and Sadie Proctor won 8-0. In a singles exhibition, Emily Donaldson won 8-2.

The Vikings’ next match is set for Thursday at home against McIntosh.
