Prep Baseball: East Coweta rolls past Sandy Creek

After a couple of days of heavy rains, the weather finally cooperated for the East Coweta Indians Wednesday afternoon.
In the process, the Indians’ bats heated up en route to a 9-3 victory over visting Sandy Creek in a non-region game.
East Coweta moved to 3-0 with the win.
Leading 5-3 heading into the sixth inning, the Indians broke open the game after pushing four runs across.
Junior Matthew Meyer picked up the win in relief of starter Brandon Ruston, who left the game with an injury after two innings. Meyer threw four innings for the Indians, striking out five and giving up just one hit.
Cameron Smith swung the hot bat for the Indians, finishing the game going 3-for-3 and scoring three runs. He also drove in two runs.
Bryce Gemmel finished with two hits and drove in two runs for East Coweta. In addition to his strong pitching performance, Meyer also had a hit. The Indians also got hits from Austin Jones, Jon Banks and Tim Manning.

East Coweta travels to South Forsyth on Friday for a non-region game.

The Indians were scheduled to play Troup County on Friday, but that game was rained out. It was rescheduled for March 14.

Newnan loses at McIntosh: The Newnan Cougars suffered their first loss of the season on Wednesday, losing at McIntosh 10-0 to fall to 3-1 on the season.

Full results were unavailable at deadline.

Newnan’s JV remained undefeated by defeating Starr’s Mill 13-3 at home in five innings while pounding out 10 hits.

The varsity Cougars return home today to play Sandy Creek at 5:30 p.m.
