Senoia Raceway adds vintage cars to 2013 season schedule
From Staff Reports
As it gears up for its fourth year under the guidance of brothers Tim and Tony Moses, Senoia Raceway the 2013 season expects the track to take a step back in time in early May.
The track announced recently that the National Vintage Racing Association will join the Saturday night racing action at their 3/8ths mile clay oval on May 4. The NVRA vintage race cars are restored originals that competed on tracks in the southeast in the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s.
The NVRA features several types of stock cars and modifieds from yesteryear. Flathead and 6-cylinder powered cars from 1930 to 1957 comprise their Limited Sportsman division.
The NVRA Modified Sportsman division is made up of classic race cars from 1930 to 1954 which run OHV V-8 engines while the NVRA Late Model features vehicles from 1949 to 1968. The fastest vintage division is the Modified Open which include the highly modified stock cars that competed in the late 1960s through the mid 1970s.
“NVRA officials think there could be a couple dozen or more different cars for this first appearance of the series since Tony and I reopened the track,” added Moses.
The 2013 Senoia Raceway schedule will crank up with weekly racing on Saturday, March 31. Weekly racing action will include the Late Models, B Cadets, Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks and Bombers. The Modified Mini division, Vintage Cars, Sprint Cars and Mini Sprints will also see action at the track this season.
Gate times and ticket prices will remain unchanged for the 2013 season. Pit gates will open at 5 p.m and grandstand gates at 6:30. Hot Laps will begin at 7:30 and racing set to go green around 8.
The track will host the 2nd annual Senoia Raceway Swap & Shop on Saturday, March 9. The racer’s swap meet is open to any form of motorsport allowing anyone to buy, sell and trade auto racing equipment, car parts, vehicles and more. Vendor spaces for $20 are available on a first come, first serve basis beginning at 8 a.m. Gates will open to the public an hour later.
Drivers will also have their first shot of the season to practice at the 3/8ths mile clay track following the Swap & Shop, with the season’s first practice also set for March 9. The cost is $20 for a pit pass or free to watch in the grandstand.
