Prep Tennis: Newnan teams open season at LaGrange

Newnan’s tennis teams opened their respective 2013 schedules on Thursday at LaGrange, with singles players Carly Griffies and Caroline Davis each picking up victories in their first matches.
LaGrange captured both team victories, winning 3-2 in girls and 4-1 in boys action.
Davis was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at the No. 3 singles position for the Lady Cougars while Carly Griffies won at the No. 2 spot for Newnan.
Gray Griffies opened the year at No. 1 singles for the Lady Cougars. Doubles teams consisted of Lollie Davis and Lindley Hudson along with Abbie Gordon and Emma Fuchs at the No. 2 position.
The Lady Cougars also had doubles tandems of Ansley Knight and Emily Ferguson as well as Cellie Waters and Katie Miller earn wins in challenge matches.
Despite falling 4-1 to LaGrange, the Cougars had three matches end in tiebreakers. At No. 3 singles, Stewart Rand opened the year with a victory while both No. 2 player Landon Goolsby and a No. 2 doubles team of Bennett Souter and Sam Thomas were defeated.

Will Balleu opened the year with a loss at No. 1 singles as did Mikey Miller and Will Vineyard at No. 1 doubles.
