GISA Roundup: Heritage School rolls past Skipstone

With a hop, skip and a jump, The Heritage School's boys basketball team used a 27-point first quarter and built a commanding lead en route to a 72-54 victory at home Tuesday in a non-region victory while now turning its attention back to Region 1-AAA play.
Glavine Groover led 11 all Hawks scorers with 11 points on 4 of 8 shooting from the field and both Rich Yancey and Tyler Henson added 10 apiece as Heritage School jumped out to a 47-24 lead at halftime. Groover finished with three 3-pointers on six attempts.
Brian McKinney added a team-high nine rebounds to go with six points while Groover was among three Heritage School players with three assists in the victory.
The Hawks (13-1, 3-1) were coming off a convincing 73-50 victory over Flint River on Saturday where Heritage School had four players in double figures lead by Garrett Jones' 15. Groover added 13 and Caleb Vaughn and Yancey each scored 10.

Up next is a Region 1-AAA doubleheader against Trinity Christian with Heritage School looking to open its newly completed gym located adjacent to its old facility.

TRINITY CHRISTIAN (GIRLS) 32, ATLANTA GIRLS SCHOOL 29
At home, Sara Bryan and Ashley Caldwell each posted double-doubles for the Lady Lions, who received a late basket from Skylar Lamb in the final minute to help close out the Region 1-AAA victory.

Trinity Christian improved to 3-1 in region play and 4-8 overall.

Bryan continued to to put up big numbers statistically, scoring 12 points and adding 11 rebounds while also finishing with five assists and six steals in the win.

Caldwell, meanwhile, led Trinity Christian with 14 points to go with 10 rebounds and three assists.

Lamb finished with four points including her clutch shot off a rebound with just over a minute left. Alex Huber also had two points for the Lady Lions, which rallied from a 21-17 halftime deficit to take a 26-25 lead into the fourth quarter.

GLENWOOD (ALA.) ACADEMY 86, TRINITY CHRISTIAN (BOYS) 40
At Trinity, Glenwood of Phenix City, Ala., jumped on the Lions in the first half to take a 43-18 lead at the break. Glen Whisby led Trinity Christian with 10 points in the non-region loss.

SATURDAY GAMES

FLINT RIVER 54, HERITAGE SCHOOL (GIRLS) 35
The Heritage School Lady Hawks had trouble getting their offense on track Saturday falling in a GISA Region 1-AAA conference game.

Chase Parker was the only player to score in double figures for the Lady Hawks, turning in a 22-point effort.

MIDDLE SCHOOL 

HERITAGE SCHOOL (GIRLS) 28, FLINT RIVER 10
Michaela Cushing led the way with 10 points and Jasmine Gainwell had 9 as the Lady Hawks led from start to finish en route to the win.

HERITAGE SCHOOL (BOYS) 43, FLINT RIVER 16
Henry Arnall led the Hawks with seven points and Patrick Griffiies and Wright Arnall added six and five, respectively.
