Dee Snelling’s been on the basketball court for only a few days since the close of Trinity Christian’s football season. But the junior guard proved his potential for the Lions immediately in a 52-41 victory over Flint River Academy in his team’s 2012-13 opener.
Snelling led a 19-7, fourth-quarter run for Trinity Christian while scoring eight of his team-high 21 points over the final eight minutes.
The Lions led by one point after the opening period and only by two after three quarters in a tight game throughout. Both teams went to halftime tied at 21. Snelling, though, went 3-for-3 at the free-throw line in the final period, connected on two shots from the field and added a couple of steals defensively for head coach Anthony Lamb.
“He did a great job at the end for us,” Lamb said. “We’re a lot smaller overall this year. We just don’t have a lot of size up front.”
Spencer Bryan added 13 points for Trinity Christian, which travels to Griffin Christian on Friday.
Trinity Christian’s girls lost its opening game of the season, 45-29 to Flint River despite 10 points, five assists and seven rebounds from Sarah Bryan. The Lady Lions fell behind 16-3 after one quarter while forced to play catch-up the rest of the way. Trinity outscored the Lady Wildcats 10-7 in the third period while also receiving 15 points and six rebounds from Ashley Caldwell.

Sirena Eller finished with four points for the Lady Lions in the loss.

Landmark Christian girls 59, Yeshiva 11: On the road, the Lady War Eagles finished with three players in double figures led by Mikayla Krzeczowski’s 18 points. Both Morgan McWilliams and Abby Johns added 12 points in the win.
