Prep Basketball: Northgate girls move to 2-0

The Northgate girls basketball team improved their record to 2-0 this season with a 43-39 win over visiting New Manchester on Thursday night.
Lyric Underwood led the Lady Vikings in scoring with 16 points and Katie Mitchell added 10.
Northgate also controlled the boards with Taylor Kidner pulling down 9 rebounds and Ebonee Echols and Amber Radda finishing with seven each.
“They are really starting to buy into what we are trying to do,” Northgate head coach Matt Trucks said.
The Vikings and Lady Vikings travel to Landmark Christian for a pair of contests Saturday. It will be a part of a varsity doubleheader with the girls playing at 5 p.m. The boys will open their season at 6:30.
• Landmark Christian 55, ELCA 41 (Girls)
The Landmark Christian War Eagles opened the season Thursday with a 55-41 victory over Eagle’s Landing Christian.

Landmark Christian was led in scoring by Diamond Smith with 21 points. Abby Jones chipped in 12 and Morgan McWilliams had 10.

• Landmark Christian 82, McIntosh 52 (Boys)
Justin Ross led all scorers with 28 points as Landmark Christian turned in an impressive season-opening win over McIntosh. Daniel Scharitz  also scored 11 in the win.
