Longtime high school football coach and former Newnan High player Ron Beaucham will be among three new members of the Coweta Sports Hall of Fame as part of its Class of 2013.
Joining Beaucham among the newest class of inductees are William Parker and Bob Tillman. The trio will increase the Hall’s members to 75 following induction ceremonies on on February 9, 2013. Last year’s Coweta Sports Hall of Fame class was made up of Harold Goodman and Roosevelt Hill.
Beaucham is a 1968 graduate of Newnan High School where he starred on the football and baseball fields for the Cougars.
After high school, Beaucham moved on to the college ranks where he was a standout member of the Jacksonville State Gamecocks, earning All-Gulf South and Honorable Mention All-American honors.
After graduation, Beaucham entered the coaching ranks serving first as the head football coach at Bradwell Institute and Treutlen County before returning to Coweta County as Northgate first football coach from 1998-2004. He later spent two years starting the program at The Heritage School as its first head coach in 2006 and 2007. He is currently a defensive assistant at East Coweta working with the Indians’ linebackers.
Parker, a resident of Melbourne, Fla., had a stellar high school career both on and off the basketball court at Newnan.
On the court for the Cougars, he led his team in scoring and rebounding his senior year.

After being elected student body president at Newnan, Parker earned a basketball scholarship to Oglethorpe, playing at the college from 1961-65.

In 1963 he helped Oglethorpe reach the Final Four and also set the single game rebounding record against Rollins College in 1963.

The Vietnam veteran spent his post military career in education, where he was Teacher of the Year at Key West High School in 1967. He also served as a basketball and baseball coach, as well as an athletic director. Parker retired in 1996.

He also served as a college professor from 1999-2002 before retiring again and settling in Melbourne, Fla.

Tillman, now makes his home in Smyrna, but during the 1970s, he was a standout athlete at Newnan High, excelling in track, and football before earning a scholarship first as a running back and then switching sides to play defensive end at The Citadel.

As a high jumper for the Cougars, Tillman placed first all four years at the region and was third at the state meet in 1973.

In 1973 he rushed for 9 touchdowns and averaged 4.2 yards per carry to help the Cougars football team.

The math major at The Citadel earned a spot on the dean’s list with a degree in math and has spent 34 years working for Hewlett-Packard. He recently submitted is papers for early retirement.

These days he also spends time as a basketball and softball coach with the Smyrna Athletic Department.
